Suheyla Takesh

Suheyla Takesh contributes to Barjeel Art Foundation’s local and international projects, working on research, curatorial development of exhibitions, and the production of publications. In 2015, an exhibition she curated from the Foundation’s collection at the Aga Khan Museum, entitled “Home Ground”, was named Toronto’s top art show of the year by NOW Toronto. Suheyla received her undergraduate degree from the American University of Sharjah, and is currently pursuing graduate studies at MIT’s department of History, Theory and Criticism of Architecture and Art, where her research addresses exchanges between the Soviet Union and Arab states in the spheres of art and education. She is looking at various manifestations of Social(ist) Realisms in the work of Arab modernists, and at the epistemological framing of modern Arab art by Soviet scholars.
