Munira Al Kazi

The abstract compositions of the Pune, India-born, Saudi-Kuwaiti artist Munira Al-Kazi take form in painting and printmaking, especially etching. Beginning as an oil painter, Al-Kazi pursued a degree at London’s Central School of Art and Design, where she developed an interest in printmaking techniques. After her graduation in 1961, Al-Kazi worked from her studio in London, holding exhibitions of paintings and etchings in Europe and the Middle East until the 1970s before moving to Ibiza in Spain. In the early 2000s, she began to incorporate digital media into her practice. Since the 1960s, Al-Kazi's prints and paintings have been collected by several international institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and MoMA in New York. Her work has also appeared in exhibitions across Europe, the Middle East and the United States, with a notable appearance at the inauguration of Kuwait’s Sultan Gallery in 1969.
